Anaghashtami Vrat # Anagha Datta Vrat # Anaghlaxmi Vrat 

    Worship of Shri Anagh ( Lord Shri Datt / Shripad shrivallabh) along with Anaghaa devi (also called shriya or Laxmi) confers all round well being and should be performed by all datta devotees. it is possible to get all auspicious things by this vrata. This vrat has its reference in Shripad Shrivallabh Charitamrutam Chapter 43. 

     This Anaghashtami puja will need the following preparation

Preparations for performing Anaghashtami Puja 



At the place where you are going to perform puja
1. Draw Rangoli and colour it
You can use rangoli sticker otherwise










2. Place chowrang upon that rangoli and cover it          with new cloth
Collect all items that you will need for puja in one place 




  1. Haldi 
  2. Kumkum
  3. Ashtagandh
  4. Akshata
  5. Kapur
  6. Rangoli
  7. Tulsi Leaves
  8. Durva for ganpati
  9. Red flower for ganpati
  10. Kumkum for archan 50 gms
  11. Tandool / Rice  -  1 Kg
  12. Vida pan - 30
  13. Supari    - 30
  14. Panchamrut ( given below)
  15. Fruits 
  16. Coconut 2 nos
  17. Halwa for naivedyam
  18. Akshata ( Whole rice grains coloured lightly with dry kumkum or food colour ) 
  19. Incense sticks
  20. Ghee Lamp 
  21. Janwe  2 nos 
Panchamrut : Two tsp each of the folllowing separate for panchamrut Snanam 

1. Dudh - Milk

2. Dahi - Curds
3. Ghee - Clarified butter
4. Madh - Honey
5. Sharkara - Sugar


Upakarni and other things
  1. Tamhan  2 nos
  2. Ghanta
  3. Shankh
  4. Kalash
  5. Pali and panchpatra
  6. Water
  7. Idol/ pratima of Anagha Datt if not available use 2 supari instead 


Now for placement of kalash in the centre and 8 supari's  in 8 directions and ninth one as Ganapati on the platform ( chowrang ). Make nine small heaps of rice (one handfull)  and small 10 th one as in photo is for lord ganapati



Prepare nine vida (two vida pan + one coin +one supari form one vida which we give as tambul and dakshina to the lord while performing puja ) 
Prepare 12 such vida 
(one each for lord Ganpati ; lord Datt; and Anaghdevi , eight for the gods - Ashtasiddhi - 8 sons of Shri Anagha Dutta we invite in the 8 suparis placed in 8 directions) 
and
 12th one along with dakshina and coconut is given to the one who instructs you for the puja and the other coconut is given to you as prasad for you and your family by him/her

Place nine such vida as shown in phtograph

Now you are ready to perform the puja. Perform shodashaupachar (16) puja of Lord Anagh along with Anaghalaxmi

The 16 upchar are as given below


(They are performed with Purushsukta mantras for Gods

and with Shrisukta for Godess)
  1. Avahan - to invite
  2. Aasana
  3. Padya
  4. Ardhya
  5. Achaman
  6. Snaan
  7. Vastra, Yadnyopavit (janve)
  8. Gandha, Haldi - kumkum, parimal dravya (e.g. chandan)
  9. Pushpa, Patra ( flowers, leaves e.g. tulsi, durva etc)
  10. Dhoop ( Incence stick)
  11. Deep  ( Ghee lamp )
  12. Naivedyam
  13. Tambul (vida)
  14. Dakshina
  15. Pradaskhina, Namaskar
  16. Mantra pushpa, Arti Prarthana



1.  Before puja bow to all your elders and God.
2.  With the help of flower dipped in water sprinkle 
     water on all the puja sahitya that you have 
     clollected and upon your self for shuddhi.
3.  Perform pranayam as it cleanses the mind. 
     Chant Om for 16 times. Then
      - Sakal devata namaskar
      - Sankalp 
      - Bhoomi puja
      - Shadangnyas
     - Kalash pujan (fill kalash with water, you can add waters of varrious rivers like     ganga, saraswati if you have, also add a pinch akshata, one supari and one coin in it)
      - Shankh Pujan
      - Ghanta pujan
      - Deep pujan
     
4.  First Avahana and pujan of Ganapati as vighnaharta
5.  Then avahan and puja of the 8 siddhi's in 8 directions (Ashta sidhi - 8 sons)
      They are

            Disha/Direction                   Siddhi devata
1.           Ishanya                      Aanima
2.           Agneya                      Laghima
3.           Neirutya                     Prapti
4.           Vayavya                     Prakamya
5.           Pashchim                   kamavasayita
6.           Purva                          Mahima
7.           Uttar                           Ishitwa
8.           Dakshin                      Vashitwa




Now place the kalash in the center, and on it one tamhan with rice in it. Also place idol or pratima of Anagha Dutt as in photo graph.






6.   Then avahan and puja of Lord Anagh along with Anagha       laxmi 
7.    Perform Mahaabhishek with Purushsukta, Shrisukta
      Ganapati sukta, Rudra etc.
8.    Then chanting names of Anaghadutt perform 
         -  Kumkum archan and or
         -  Akshata archan  and or
         -  Pushpa (flowers)
         -  Patra ( tulsi as Lord Anagh is Form of Shri Vishnu)
  9   Naivedyam
10.  Aarati 
11.  Mantra pushpanjali
12.  Pradakshina
13.  Namaskar
14.  Kshama Prarthana

Then Uttarpuja is performed.
